Regional Transportation Commission and Regional Flood Control District Headquarters (RTC/RFC)

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA77,000 sfCompletion 1999

The curvilinear sandstone walls at the Headquarters’ main entry courtyard replicate the experience of passing through desert canyons, such as those at nearby Red Rock Canyon.

These complex walls and covered pedestrian arcades shade visitors from the harsh desert sun, while the xeriscaping showcases indigenous plants.  The courtyard features a central water fountain that cascades over sandstone rocks, emphasizing the importance of this natural resource. Our design, inspired by the arid region and native landscape, received four awards, including two AIA Honor Awards from regional chapters.
