Fentress Architects’ renovation of the celebrated Peery’s Theater and the firm’s design for a new state-of-the-art convention center reflects a contemporary interpretation of Egyptian-style architecture.
The historic 1929 Theater, inspired by the discovery of King Tut’s tomb, was revived and restored to its original coloration and detail. The firm’s design rejuvenated the famed atmospheric ceiling, side balconies and ornate proscenium arch. The vibrant theater and modern center work together to form a dynamic complex, and was a project pivotal to the city’s downtown revitalization plan. The Peery’s renovation won six design awards, including two Honor Awards from the American Institute of Architects and a National Preservation Award of Honor from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
