Semper Fidelis Memorial Park Chapel
Quantico, Virginia, USA2,275 sfCompletion 2009
Simplicity and elegance characterize the chapel’s architecture, designed as a sacred sanctuary in the woods.
Natural fieldstone, heavy timber columns and expansive glass walls frame the serene, wooded environment, allowing visitors to remain connected to nature. The chapel’s openness, transparent walls and pointed roof recalls the tent canopies used for field chapels. Simple yet powerful, the sloped slate roof soars skyward and invokes an uplifting feeling of hope and strength. A centerpiece of the Semper Fidelis Memorial Park, the 77-seat structure serves as an intimate worship and gathering place with a commanding hilltop view overlooking the National Museum of the Marine Corps.
