Since our founding in 1980, over 700 exceptional individuals have been a part of Fentress Architects. We are proud to note that more than half our current staff have been a part of Fentress Architects for longer than ten years, and many have spent the better part of their careers here. Together, we create a supportive and collaborative culture that enhances our ability to produce exceptional design.
We believe the talented individuals who make up Fentress Architects are our greatest asset. Therefore, we offer and support professional growth and learning opportunities, create highly accessible and opens forums that provide a means to improve our practice, and reinforce self-care and community involvement.
Hallmarks of Our Community
We prioritize collaboration with our clients, stakeholders and one another. We believe every member of our firm has valuable contributions to make, and so, we have cultivated an environment that encourages input from everyone, across all departments, regardless of title or tenure.
We value our team, and reward extraordinary effort through internal awards. The “Touchstone Award” recognizes exceptional talent and outstanding contributions, while the “Fentress Vision Award” recognizes professional growth from a new member of the architectural and interior design team.
Founded in 1999, Fentress University provides opportunities throughout the year to learn and earn AIA credits. The firm’s commitment to education also includes funding scholarships, implementing an internship development program, and active involvement with architecture schools across the nation.
Mentorship + Camaraderie
The “Fentress Young Interns” group (FYI) meets regularly for fun and learning, employing our Mentor Partnership program to support the licensure process, learn the business of architecture, and explore the studio’s philosophies.
Health + Wellbeing
At Fentress, we believe physical and mental well-being is essential to strong team performance. Our well-utilized fitness room in the Denver office is available to staff 24/7. It offers weights, treadmills, stationary bikes and showers. We also provide secure, indoor bike storage for staff who commute by bicycle.
Nearly all of the over 35 local architecture firms and more than 50 consultant groups with whom the firm has teamed are repeat associations. Our recurring receipt of the Marvin M. Black Partnering Award is a testament to the positive team environments created and led by Fentress Architects.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
At Fentress, we know truly diverse and inclusive environments require more than just making room at the table. Therefore, we take proactive measures to both recruit—and retain—our highly dynamic and diverse workforce.
We foster a diverse workforce through recruitment, professional/personal development and retention.
We have enacted inclusivity and equity training for all staff, and provide additional diversity training for our leadership. Meanwhile, we also provide all employees with the resources necessary to advance their careers and become strong leaders.
We deliberately create—with the help of policies and systems—an inclusive, empowering and respectful environment where all members of our staff feel supported.
We are meaningful and consistent participants in activities that support and improve the professional and geographical communities to which we belong. Our participation affords opportunities to impart knowledge and share resources. It also affords opportunities to receive education and inspiration. Activities and organizations with which we are routinely involved include:
- Cleworth Architectural Legacy (CAL) Project Doors Open Denver
- Nathan Yip Foundation
- We Care, in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America
