Two 50-foot cooling towers developed at the University of Arizona Environmental Research Laboratory provide additional relief from Tucson’s sweltering summer heat. More than 20,000 ceramic tiles fabricated by a local artist decorate the interior columns and beams of the arbor, while an exterior constructed of locally recycled brick allows the Center to blend with its urban context. Located in Tucson’s historic arts district, Ronstadt was instrumental to the neighborhood’s revitalization and has become a destination for festivals and community events. Fentress’ design has received three awards from the American Institute of Architects.
