Robin Ault, AIA, LEED AP

Principal, Design Director

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

About

A third-generation Colorado native, Robin brings a deep connection to his roots and a wealth of experience to his role at Fentress Architects. His fascination with architecture was first sparked in high school when he encountered Richard Meier’s Douglas House—a moment that shifted his perspective on the possibilities of design. That encounter didn’t just guide him toward architecture, but opened his eyes to the transformative power of space and the way that thoughtful design both shapes the built environment and the lives of those who experience it.

Robin’s design philosophy illustrates the Touchstone™ “Use Context to Create Identity,” emphasizing the importance of connecting projects to their specific place and culture. This principle is evident in his work since joining the firm in 1995, ensuring that each project he leads is uniquely tailored to its environment. It is showcased in numerous projects where he has played a pivotal role such as the Colorado Convention Center, Terminal 2 at RDU, the LEED Platinum Humanities Gateway at UC Irvine, and the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine in San Diego.

In addition to his design expertise, Robin is an active member of the architectural community. He is a member of the AIA, has spoken at design conferences such as Facades+, and serves as a Design Review Board Member for the Lowry Community Master Association. Robin is also a visiting critic at the University of Colorado, College of Architecture and Planning, where he mentors the next generation of architects. Beyond his professional life, Robin’s commitment to his community is further demonstrated through his volunteer work on the Board of Directors for the Lowry Community Master Association.
