For the University of Colorado at Denver, moving its health sciences center from the original tight 46-acre urban site to the new 216-acre Anschutz Medical Campus offered an opportunity to design a state-of-the-art research center.
Research 1 includes two linked buildings that house educational space, offices and laboratories. Flexibility allows researchers to customize their spaces as research requirements and needs evolve. The design sets a precedent for future development on the medical campus and creates a complex as forward-looking as the work being done inside. The sleek design accents metal detailing on the buildings’ glass curtainwalls and a sophisticated color palette for the brick and stonework. Research 1 was designed in association with Kling Stubbins.
