Santa Fe Convention Center
Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA262,000 sfCompletion 2008
The city of Santa Fe requires that new construction follow strict design guidelines in the popular historic downtown.
In respecting the area’s concentration of Pueblo Revival structures, Fentress’ design plays off the strengths of “Santa Fe style” with portals, wooden beams, zaguanes and fireplaces. The Center’s textured stucco walls and rounded corners are crafted in a palette of desert tones to appear as if the structure had always been there. A traditional Southwestern courtyard reinforces the Center’s role as a community gathering place, while pedestrian connections into the heart of Santa Fe celebrate its centuries-old Central Plaza. Certified LEED Gold, the building features a second-story green roof and terrace that effectively deflects desert heat.
